Yes, there is such a thing!
It meets every 3 months and addresses issues that affect the less abled.

Civic Centre - 1st Floor meeting room - next meeting Friday 29th Aug 2008 at 3pm
We pressed for and got ‘shopmobility’ scooters for the Town Centre.
We have been trying to sort out the numerous pavement obstacles called ‘A’ frame advertising boards.
We have just decided to approach W H Smith to find a way to improve access to the lower floor. At a board meeting in December, the Berkhamsted shop will have access for wheelchairs to the lower floor by the end of 2007. Another result!

Did you know?
There is a 1066 club for the blind and partially-sighted. They meet on the 1st Monday on the month in the Court House. Contact Doris Cutler on 863793 (doris@dorisc.plus.com). They are desperate for some secretarial help and even just helpers. If you think you can assist this worthwhile cause, give Doris a ring, she would appreciate it

Information on accessible facilities and businesses may be available from this new site.
If you are disabled, the Borough Council Council has a web-site providing information on shops which are easily accessed. Pop along to www.dacorum-disabled-access/info for more information.
I have some news on wheelchair access to the rail network. It does need some planning, though!
Telephone Berkhamsted station on 878944 and speak to Peter or Ken and tell then which train you want.
Arrangements will be made for staff to meet the user and escort to the platform and a ramp will be provided to get you on the train.
Euston will then be contacted to make arrangements for meeting the train and escorted through Euston so as to carry on the next part of the journey.
You can book the same facilities for your return journey at Euston.
I understand Customer Services for Silverlink at Watford will also help organise your journey.
Best I can do, I’m afraid and don’t forget ‘Shopmobility’ is available in Berkhamsted every day (not just Thursdays).
If you want to go to the cinema, the the REX will allow carers in for free, but once again forward planning is needed, so phone first and access is via the flats entrance and a couple of parking spaces are allocated for disabled persons use.
